J. Culture – Sword Dance: Onikenbai鬼剣舞

Sword Dance: Onikenbai鬼剣舞 – It is an art of tradtional Nenbutsu dance of Kitakami, Iwate, Japan. Some people also called “Kenbae” instead of “Onikenbai”. Since the late of Meiji period, people from place to place where they dance and celebrate bravely with a demon face mask to do threatening (a.k.a. incarnation) during the summer time. There are many different type of dancing style group, like, Kikan dance, Demon sword dance or etc. Some young people also performed this interesting festival as athletic group meetings in schools.……..    ………..
